Invest Region Leipzig at SEMICON Japan 2024

SEMICON Japan 2024 - Japan's leading event for the semiconductor industry - was a complete success for Invest Region Leipzig. With almost 103,000 participants, renowned exhibitors from all over the world and high-calibre keynotes at the Tokyo Big Sight venue, the trade fair provided a platform for constructive discussions and new contacts. This trade fair visit was of particular importance to us. Alongside SEMICON Europe, SEMICON Taiwan and SEMICON West, SEMICON Japan is one of the world's most important events for the semiconductor industry and offered a unique opportunity to target companies from the forward-looking microelectronics sector.

Why Japan?

Japan is a key market for the semiconductor industry with a long tradition and outstanding innovative strength. As part of the leading Asia-Pacific region, the country offers an ideal platform for reaching companies in the global microelectronics industry. For the Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC, for example, which will soon be opening a high-tech fab in Saxony, Japan is the second most important foreign location.

Our aim: to publicise the Leipzig region as a first-class location for international expansion and to establish promising partnerships. In targeted discussions, our colleagues Sophie Martin and Florian Schmidtner presented Leipzig's numerous locational advantages to the companies and explored future cooperation opportunities.

A strong team at the Saxony stand

Together with Silicon Saxony and the Saxony Economic Development Corporation, our colleagues represented Saxony as a business location and thus also the Leipzig region and its many locational advantages. The focus was particularly on the close connection to the microelectronics industry, the excellent infrastructure and access to specialised skilled workers. The excellent cooperation between all those involved was decisive for the successful trade fair appearance and the successful approach to international companies.

In a nutshell: Leipzig is a convincing business location!

The Leipzig region offers interested companies in the chip value chain a first-class environment:

• Strong industry network: proximity to the chip industry & Europe's largest microelectronics cluster Silicon Saxony
• Optimum infrastructure: Efficient transport network and short distances for smooth logistics.
• Innovative skilled labour base: access to highly qualified talent through universities, research institutions and companies.

The trade fair was also an opportunity to deepen discussions already initiated at SEMICON Europe and to concretise potential projects. Invest Region Leipzig is looking forward to continuing these discussions and would like to thank all partners for their cooperation!
