Invest Region Leipzig GmbH

Review of Expo Real 2024

Successful presentation of the Leipzig economic region

Expo Real 2024 in Munich was a complete success for Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL) and its partners. With around 40,000 participants from 75 countries, the trade fair provided an ideal platform to present the Leipzig region as an attractive investment location and to draw attention to new and existing commercial properties. The joint appearance with the city of Leipzig as well as representatives from the district of Leipzig and North Saxony enabled an intensive exchange about the potential of our economic region.

At the joint stand of the European Metropolitan Region of Central Germany, the future projects of the Leipzig region and the associated investment potential were presented to the market over three days.

Valuable insights and new contacts for the Leipzig region

Sophie Martin, Christiane Zurl, Maria Paul and Michael Körner were on site for the IRL and used the trade fair to make new contacts, maintain existing networks and gain a comprehensive overview of the market. This year, the IRL was accompanied by the Mayor of Naunhof, Anna-Luise Conrad, the Mayor of Borna, Oliver Urban, and the Mayor of Zwenkau, Holger Schulz, from the district of Leipzig. The more than 30 informative and constructive discussions, most of which were held with project developers, gave all participants the opportunity to present available commercial sites and gain valuable insights into market requirements. ‘EXPO Real in Munich was a great experience for me and I was able to take a lot of ideas and impressions home with me,’ summarised Anna-Luise Conrad, Mayor of Naunhof.

The trade fair also provided new insights into the dynamic developments in the property market and best practices from other municipalities and regions. Holger Schulz, Mayor of Zwenkau, emphasised: ‘We are in the middle of planning our new green industrial estate. The numerous discussions with various industry players gave us an in-depth insight into the market. The dialogue about the needs of future investors was also very helpful for us.’

Leipzig region: optimistic outlook despite subdued market situation

Despite the subdued market situation, interest in the Leipzig region continues unabated, as it is one of the few growth regions in Germany. Many developers and investors are hoping for positive developments and concrete guidelines from politicians to drive projects in the region forward. Above all, if we want to attract the investors of tomorrow to the region, we need to prepare the sites today. The outlook for the future is optimistic: the town of Zwenkau has already registered to take part in Expo Real 2025. Borna's Lord Mayor Oliver Urban was positive: ‘We were able to use the time in Munich for many interesting and promising discussions. We are already looking ahead to Expo Real 2025 with optimism and look forward to the support of the IRL again next year.’

The IRL would like to thank all participants as well as the representatives of the city of Leipzig, the district of Leipzig, the delegation from Zwenkau, Naunhof and Borna and the district of North Saxony as well as the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce for their constructive cooperation and strong presentation of the Leipzig economic region at Expo Real 2024.
