enaDyne in Leipzig: A successful example of innovation promotion and location attractiveness

enaDyne GmbH, an innovative company in the field of plasma catalysis, has chosen Leipzig as its new company headquarters and production site. As a spin-off of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, enaDyne develops non-thermal plasma catalytic reactors that convert CO2 into sustainable chemicals and e-fuels. The company was honoured with the IQ Innovation Award Central Germany 2023 for its pioneering technology and took first place in the Saxon Start-up Award 2024.

Strategic decision in favour of Leipzig

With the relocation of the company headquarters from Freiberg to Leipzig, enaDyne is taking an important step towards making the development of its highly efficient plasma reactors ready for series production. Leipzig will not only be home to a production facility, but also an international hub of partners in the field of plasma catalysis. The availability of highly qualified specialists, the attractiveness of the urban environment for potential partners and the internationality of the location were decisive factors in the decision.

Philipp Hahn, CEO of enaDyne, emphasises: ‘Leipzig offers us a very good industrial network in the fields of chemistry, plant engineering and sustainable technologies. Strong universities specialising in our fields and the attractive city make it possible for us to attract highly qualified personnel from Germany and abroad.’

Growth and future plans

enaDyne currently employs 17 people and 6 student assistants at its Leipzig site. Over the next two years, the company plans to increase its workforce to 25 employees. The most important goals include

Further development of the technology: construction of the first prototypes and pilot plants.
Long-term production plans: manufacturing the scaled technology on site

‘In the long term, we want to realise significant parts of production here locally,’ explains Philipp Hahn. At the same time, the company in Leipzig is facing the typical challenges of setting up a company: ‘Acquiring capital to finance technology development, finding suitable premises to accommodate our growing team and enable interdisciplinary development, as well as recruiting highly qualified personnel for our various sub-disciplines were and are key tasks.’

Successful cooperation with Invest Region Leipzig

enaDyne was supported in its establishment by the Saxony Economic Development Corporation (WFS), the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig and Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL). Philipp Hahn particularly emphasised the cooperation with the IRL:
‘The IRL was always very helpful - especially in the search for a new location. This support was crucial for our successful start in Leipzig.’

Michael Körner, Managing Director of IRL, is also delighted: ‘With enaDyne, Leipzig has gained another innovative company that perfectly complements our region's strengths in the fields of chemistry and sustainable technologies. We are delighted to support enaDyne here and to continue to develop the location together.’

Conclusion: Leipzig as a magnet for innovation

The establishment of enaDyne underlines Leipzig's attractiveness for high-tech companies. With its combination of industrial network, academic excellence and international appeal, the region offers ideal conditions for innovative companies like enaDyne.
